‘State-authored textbook should be scrapped’
Ed. superintendent adds voice to growing number of critics

Jeju’s superintendent of education has weighed in on a new and controversial state-authored history textbook that critics say distorts history.


Lee Seok-mun says the book must be scrapped.

At a Monday planning meeting, he argued that is was only a few dictatorships around the world that published state-authored textbooks, adding their use would cause a myriad of problems in classrooms. Lee said it was imperative that local residents understand the gravity of the situation and the need to throw out the textbook, and he asked all those attending the meeting to boost awareness of the issue.

이석문 제주도교육감이 역사왜곡 논란을 빚고 있는 국정교과서를 폐기해야한다고 강조했습니다.


이 교육감은 오늘(5일) 열린 기획조정회의에서 국정교과서는 세계적으로도 일부 국가에서만 유지되는 후진적인 독재 산물이라고 밝혔습니다.


그러면서 국정교과서를 쓰게되면 교육현장의 혼란만 더 커질 것이라며 국정화의
근본 문제와 폐기의 당위성을 도민들에게 알리는데 노력해달라고 주문했습니다.
