Provincial policy forum on Ora Tourism Complex canceled
‘Privately-run project cannot be subject of official policy forum’

An official provincial policy forum on the Ora Tourism Complex proposed by local NGOs will not be happening.

Speaking from the provincial press room on Tuesday, Kim Bang-hoon, the lieutenant governor for political affairs, reported that the forum had been called off. He said that national authorities determined that the Ora Tourism Complex could not be the subject of a provincial public forum, because it is run by a private entity.

Kim added, though, that he can arrange for a different type of dialogue for local residents that are concerned about the issue.

Last month, some 2,000 people, including members of local NGOs, filed a petition to hold the island’s first-ever provincial policy forum on the complex.

시민사회단체를 중심으로 청구된 오라관광단지 도정 정책토론회의 개최 여부가 불투명해졌습니다.


김방훈 제주도정무부지사는 오늘(6일) 도청 기자실을 찾아 오라관광단지 사업은 민간에서 추진하는 것으로 도정 정책토론 대상에 해당되지 않는다는 내부 유권해석을 받았다며 조례에서 정한 토론회 개최는 어렵다는 입장을 밝혔습니다.


다만 원 지사가 도민 관심이 큰 만큼 정책토론회가 아닌 다른 형식의 대화의 자리는 마련할 수 있다고 덧붙혔습니다.


시민사회단체를 비롯한 도민 2천여 명은 지난 달 제주도에 오라관광단지사업 추진에 따른 도정 정책토론회 개최를 청구했습니다.
