Stream water tests ‘generally clean’
Officials to monitor spike in coliform bacteria

Quality tests on the water in Jeju streams have come back with generally good results.

The Jeju Research Institute of Public Health and Environment tested samples from 12 streams. On average, they received the highest ratings in seven categories, including biochemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen, and hydrogen ion concentration.

One note of concern is the level of coliform bacteria that were discovered - five times that recorded last year. Analysts say this was caused by fertilizer and sewage from nearby farms flowing into the streams, and they said they will be regularly monitoring this development.


도내 하천 수질 비교적 양호


제주도내 하천 수질이 대체로 양호한 것으로 조사됐습니다.


제주도보건환경연구원이 도내 하천 12 곳에 대한 수질을 조사한 결과 생물화학적산소요구량과 용존산소, 수소이온농도 등 7개 항목에서 평균 1등급 수질을 유지했습니다.


다만 총대장균군은 지난해보다 5배 가까이 높게 나타났는데 주요 원인은
하천 주변 농경지에서 유입된 비료와 하수 때문이라며 모니터링을 주기적으로 실시하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
