Hard times in the fishing industry
October catch and revenue tumble

The local fishing industry struggled last month.

According to the Honam Statistics Office, the catch in Jeju was down 12% on-year in October to around 6,800 tons.

Specifically, the halibut catch plummeted 52 percent, while the flatfish catch dropped 17 percent. That pushed average production in shallow-water aquaculture down 18 percent, while general
production fell 9 percent.

Fishing industry revenue also fell. It dropped 17 percent to 59.3 billion won.


10월 어업생산량·생산금액 감소


천해양식업을 중심으로 제주지역 어업생산량이 감소했습니다.


호남지방통계청 제주사무소에 따르면 10월 제주지역 어업생산량은 6천800여 톤으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 12% 감소했습니다.


특히 가자미와 넙치가 각각 52%, 17% 감소하며 천해양식업이 1년 전보다 18% 급감했고, 일반 조업 생산량은 9% 줄었습니다.


이에따라 생산금액은 593억 원으로 지난해보다 17% 감소했습니다.
