‘Fully committed to airport plans’
Governor says he will work with Seoul to allay local concerns


The governor said his administration would push forward with plans related to the construction of the island’s second airport after it was determined to be economically feasible.


Speaking from the provincial office on Wednesday, Won Heeryong said that he would work with national authorities to allay area residents’ environmental concerns, like those regarding the lava cave in Susan-ri.


As part of the project, Jeju will develop the area around the new airport. Won said the province will base its transportation and residence changes in the area on the principle of development in the interests of the public.


The governor also said that consultative bodies comprising officials, experts, and area residents would be formed as part of efforts to minimize conflicts related to the project.

원희룡 지사가 경제성이 있다고 결론난 제2공항 건설 사업과 관련된 후속절차를
차질 없이 추진하겠다고 밝혔습니다.


원 지사는 오늘 오전 제주도청 기자실을 방문해 이같은 입장을 전달하면서 특히 주민들이 우려하는 수산굴 등 환경문제에 대해 충분히 검토될 수 있도록 정부와 협의해 나가겠다고 말했습니다.


또 제주 자체적으로 진행하는 공항주변지역 개발계획은 공영개발을 원칙으로 용역을 통해 이주와 주거대책 등을 수립하겠다고 강조했습니다.


아울러 지역주민과 전문과 공무원 등으로 구성된 협의기구를 조속히 구성해 갈등 해결을 위해 노력하겠다고 덧붙혔습니다.
