Province expands ban on import of live poultry
Highly pathogenic bird flu spreads nationwide

A highly pathogenic strain of bird flu continues to spread across the country after it was discovered last month, and to keep Jeju free from the outbreak, the provincial government has expanded its ban on the import of live poultry.


Authorities are now allowing into Jeju only birds from Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk. Researchers have uncovered no cases of avian influenza in those regions.


Jeju provides 60 percent of the chickens and 20 percent of the ducks it needs. As winter is the off-season for this type of poultry, analysts predict no problems in supply.




고병원성 AI 확산, 반입금지 지역 확대


제주특별자치도는 지난달 AI 최초 발생 이후 전국으로 확산되면서 살아있는 가금류의 경우 모든 지역에서의 반입을 금지하고 있습니다.


아울러 가공품 반입 금지지역도 아직 AI가 발생하지 않은 경남과 경북을 제외한 모든 지역으로 확대했습니다.


가금류의 도내 자급률은 닭 60%, 오리 20% 정도로 추산되는 가운데 제주도는 겨울철 비수기인 만큼 수급에는 큰 문제가 없을 것으로 전망하고 있습니다.
