E-mart acquires Jeju Soju
Plans to hire more workers, expand product line-up, etc.


Korea’s largest distributor, E-mart, is going to take over Jeju Soju, which is the number 2 operator in the local soju market.


Representatives from the two companies finalized the deal Tuesday after signing a provisional contract in June.


E-mart plans some big changes with its new acquisition. For starters, it intends to hire 40 new employees, including those with and without experience. It also wants expand beyond the domestic market into China, Vietnam, Mongolia, and other countries through the development of new products.


Jeju Soju was founded in 2011. Since then, it has launched (곱들락) “Gopdeulak,” (산도롱) “Sandorong,” and other products, but it has been unable to gain a firm footing in the market.


이마트, 제주소주 인수 확정


국내 최대 유통기업인 이마트가 도내 제2의 지역소주인 '제주소주'를 인수합니다.


이마트는 지난 6월 제주소주 인수를 위한 가계약을 체결한 후 오늘(13일) 최종 인수하기로 결정했습니다.


이에따라 오늘부터 신입과 경력직 등 40여 명을 신규채용하고, 제주소주의 기존 상품 외에 신제품을 개발해 국내 시장뿐만 아니라 중국과 베트남, 몽골 등에도 수출할 계획입니다.


제주소주는 2011년 설립돼 '곱들락'과 '산도롱' 등 소주를 출시해 판매해 왔지만 부진을 면치 못했습니다.
