‘Joint response to “slanted” history textbook’
Ed. office, April Third Incident victims’ relatives vow to work together

The provincial office of education and an association of relatives of April Third Incident victims have decided to work together to make sure a new state-authored history textbook never makes it to the classroom.


In a Wednesday meeting, Superintendent of education Lee Seok-mun and relative representatives worked out ways to form a joint response to the issue.


Critics say the textbook presents a slanted view of the April Third Incident.


At the meeting, (양윤경) Yang Yoon-gyeong, the president of the association, argued that the book should be scrapped in order to ensure that future generations learn proper and balanced history with the right textbooks.


Lee added that history education is based on the coordination of a wide range of historical perspectives.

간담회 자리에서 양윤경 제주4.3유족회장은 편향적인 역사교과서를 미래 세대가 배우게 할 수 없다며 폐지를 주문했습니다.


이에 이석문 교육감은 역사교육은 다양한 관점들을 가지고 합의해 가는 과정이라고 생각한다며 공동 대응 입장을 표명했습니다.
