Cymbidium exports to Japan begin
Target: US $1m by end of May

Local growers will begin shipping this year’s cymbidiums to Japan this Wednesday.

According to Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services, the Seogwipo cymbidium export team will export the orchids to Japan through May.

The wholesale price is around 300 yen per stem, and the sales target is one million U.S. dollars by May. 

Japanese buyers like Jeju cymbidiums because water picks are attached to their stems in order to prevent withering.

올해산 심비디움이 일본으로 본격 수출됩니다.

제주특별자치도농업기술원에 따르면 서귀포 심비디움 수출작목반은 오는 21일 첫 선적을 시작으로 내년 5월까지 일본으로 수출합니다.

가격은 대당 300엔 내외에 출하되고 있으며 내년 5월까지 100만달러를 목표로 추진합니다.

수출용 심비디움은 줄기 절단부위에 물대롱을 끼워 잘 시들지 않아 일본 현지에서 큰 호응을 얻고 있습니다.
