Jeju collecting 3X more in local taxes compared to 2006
Increase caused by population influx, skyrocketing real estate prices

Since 2006, the amount of local taxes collected on the island has tripled, which is the highest growth in the nation.

This year the province is expected to collect 1.3 trillion won in local taxes. In 2006, the total was 433 billion.

The ten-year growth through last year was 159.8 percent, well more than twice the national average of 71.9 percent.

Officials say there are several reasons for the increase. They point to the island’s growing population, which has boosted the number of people paying acquisition taxes, as well as the steady rise in official prices for local real estate.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 지난 2006년부터 2015년까지 제주의 지방세 규모 증가율은 159.8%로 전국 평균 71.9% 보다 두배 이상 높았습니다.

특히 올해 지방세 징수액은 1조 3천억원으로 10년 전인 지난 2006년 4천 337억보다 3배 이상 늘어날 전망입니다.

제주도는 인구유입과 부동산 취득세가 늘어난데다 공시가격의 꾸준한 상승으로 재산세 등이 늘어났기 때문으로 분석하고 있습니다.
