Province planning national garden near Mulyeongari Oreum
Feasibility study for 170-hectare facility next year

The provincial government is seeking the creation of a new national garden around (물영아리) Mulyeongari Oreum, which is one of the local sites designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.

It envisions a 170-hectare “Jeju National Park” in Sumang-ri, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo. Local officials are planning a feasibility study for the project next year.

It will include oreum- and “gotjawal” forest-themed parks, as well as one showcasing the traditional Korean lifestyle, and others for internationally-themed gardens.

Upon completion of the feasibility study, the province will draw up a blueprint for the project and complete all required procedures in time for a 2020 start to construction. It is slated for completion in 2026.

물영아리 일대 '국가정원' 조성 추진

람사르습지인 제주 물영아리 일대에 국가정원을 조성하는 사업이 추진됩니다.

제주도는 내년 서귀포시 남원읍 수망리 물영아리 일대 170㏊를 '제주국가정원'으로 조성하기 위한 타당성 조사를 실시하고 기본계획을 수립한다고 밝혔습니다.

제주국가정원에는 오름과 곶자왈 등을 활용한 테마공원, 한국 생활사와 연계한 민속정원, 세계 주요 전통정원을 축소한 정원 등이 들어설 계획입니다.

제주도는 내년 예비타당성 조사를 받은 뒤 기본.실시설계 수립, 도시계획 변경 등의 절차를 거쳐 2020년 착공해 2026년 완공할 예정입니다.
