Jeju economy grew 4.5% in 2015
Highest growth rate in country

Jeju had the highest economic growth rate in the country last year.

Statistics Korea says the island’s gross regional domestic product, which is an indicator of economic growth, hit 13.9 trillion won in 2015. That’s 4.5 percent higher than the figure from the year before.

That economic growth rate easily outpaced the national average of just 2.8 percent.

The construction sector led the economic expansion. It grew by 20 percent, while the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector as well as the service sector contracted last year.

The overall economic growth did not necessarily benefit workers. The nominal income for Jeju’s economically active population last year was one billion won - the lowest among the nation’s 16 provinces and major cities.

지난해 제주지역 경제성장률이 전국에서 가장 높았습니다.

통계청이 발표한 2015년 지역소득 결과 자료에 따르면 경제성장률을 나타내는 지표인 실질 지역내총생산규모가 제주는 13조 9천억 원으로 2014년보다 4.5% 증가했습니다.

이는 전국 평균 성장률인 2.8%를 상회하는 전국에서 가장 높은 상승률입니다.

제주도는 농림어업과 문화 기타서비스업 등은 마이너스 성장률을 보였지만 건설업이 20% 이상 상승하면서 상승세를 이끌었습니다.

반면, 경제활동인구의 명목소득규모는 제주가 10조원으로 전국 16개 시도 가운데
최하위를 기록했습니다.
