The Korea Communications Agency has awarded the KCTV-produced “Tamna Odyssey Jeju Olle” television series. The 12-part series follows Jeju Olle trails and showcases the culture, history, and changing lifestyle along them. Mike Laidman reports.

Jeju culture explored through Olle trails

This is an Olle trail near the ocean where you can see Jeju’s famous woman divers, called ‘haenyeo.’

Nearby, stone walls snake through the fields, dividing them into patchwork quilts.

Here, walkers can get a look at the culture of the Jeju people, their history, as they traverse the trails.

12-episode series covers many facets of Jeju

In each episode, the highlighted person begins by telling stories of their area of interest and then expands them to cover the humanities and society.

This is what differentiates the program from others that only focus on the landscape surrounding the Jeju Olle trails.

‘Tamna Odyssey Jeju Olle’ awarded

The Korea Communications Agency awarded the television series, which was submitted among 53 other programs to an open exhibition from broadcasters nationwide.

The series was chosen as a national project and produced at the expense of the Korea Communications Agency.

The program was lauded for exploring the changes caused by the influx of tourists and new residents as seen through the Jeju Olle walking paths.

It also gives viewers the opportunity to think about the future value of the Jeju Olle and the island as a whole.
