‘Time to plan exports of Jeju crops to Vietnam’
Jeju Development Institute researcher thinks local products would do well

A local researcher says it’s time to start coming up with plans to export Jeju farm products to Vietnam.

(고봉현) Go Bong-hyeon of the Jeju Development Institute made that argument during a briefing about how Jeju could benefit from the free trade agreement between Korea and the Southeast Asian nation.

Go predicted Jeju crops would find a competitive footing there because the Vietnamese middle class is expanding as the national economy grows at five to six percent a year. An increasing number of people there are also becoming more health-conscious.

He projected that Jeju’s mandarin oranges, livestock products like pork and chicken, and marine products like halibut and abalone would fetch relatively high prices in the Vietnamese market.

제주산 농식품의 베트남 수출방안을 구체적으로 모색해야 한다는 주장이 나오고 있습니다.

베트남의 경우 연간 5-6%의 경제성장에 따른 중산층 증가와 건강에 대한 관심으로
우수하고 안전한 한국농식품의 경쟁력이 높을 것으로 진단했습니다.

특히 한라봉이나 천혜향과 같은 만감류, 돼지고기나 삼계탕용 닭고기 등의 축산물,
광어와 전복 같은 수산물은 높은가격에 거래될 것으로 기대했습니다.
