No local changes in rules for silent tributes
Province bucks Seoul’s plans to limit situations in which tributes allowed

The national government recently changed official ceremony rules in a way that limits the situations in which silent tributes may be paid, but the provincial government has decided not to institute any changes in how local ceremonies are run.

Accordingly, participants at many events organized by the province will continue to pay tribute to the victims of the April Third Incident.

Local officials say they considered the opinions of victims’ relatives, relevant organizations, and media outlets when they decided on this response to the national government’s rule change.

정부의 국민의례 묵념 대상 한정 논란과 관련해 제주도가 묵념 방법의 변경없이 기존과 동일하게 시행하기로 했습니다.

이에 따라 국민의례 묵념을 종전처럼 4.3 희생자 추념일과 제주도에서 주관하는 각종 행사에서 4.3 영령을 포함해 실시하기로 했습니다.

제주도는 정부의 묵념대상자 임의추가 금지 방침에 대해 4.3 유가족과 단체, 언론 등의 의견을 반영해 이같이 결정했다고 밝혔습니다.
