Ecotourism designation renewed for Seonheul camellia hill
Ministry of Environment to fund site \100m annually for 3 years

The Ministry of Environment renewed the Seonheul camellia hill’s designation as an ecotourism site.

The ministry assessed 12 areas in the country. Jeju City says the Seonheul camellia hill shared first place in that evaluation with Suncheon and Changnyeong.

Analysts attribute the renewal to multifaceted local efforts, including the creation by a local committee of an ecotourism program at the site.

The renewed designation means government funding for the site to the tune of 100 million won annually for the next three years.

제주시 조천읍 선흘1리 동백동산이 환경부가 주관하는 생태관광지역으로 재지정됐습니다.

제주시에 따르면 선흘1리 동백동산은 생태관광지역 12군데를 대상으로 실시한
환경부 평가에서 순천과 창녕과 함께 공동 1위에 올랐습니다.

이는 선흘1리 생태관광 추진협의체를 통한 생태관광 프로그램 운영 등 다각적인 노력을 기울인 결과로 분석됩니다.

동백동산에는 생태관광지역 재지정으로 앞으로 3년동안 매년 1억씩 3억원의 사업비가 투자됩니다.
