Increasing number of accidents resulting in marine pollution
11 in 2012, 27 last year

Each year brings more accidents in local waters that result in marine pollution.

According to the Jeju Regional Headquarters of the Korea Coast Guard, there were 27 such accidents in 2016, 20 the year before that, and only 11 in 2012.

The most common type of accident was the sinking or stranding of a vessel. Twelve of the incidents were caused by that. Another 11 were blamed on negligence.

제주해역에서 발생하는 해양 오염사고가 해마다 증가하는 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주해양경비안전본부에 따르면 지난해 발생한 해양오염사고는 모두 27건으로 지난 2012년 11건, 2015년 20건에 비해 늘어난 것으로 나타났습니다.

원인별로는 선박의 좌초나 침수가 12건으로 가장 많았고, 부주의로 인한 오염도 11건이 발생했습니다.
