Island schools paying 20% less for electricity
Education office to spend \2b this year improving energy efficiency

In somewhat related news, schools are now paying less for air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter.

The provincial office of education says that the Korea Electric Power Corporation changed its supply terms. Beginning in December, educational facilities are paying 20 percent less.

The office also announced that it would spend around 2 billion won to improve energy efficiency at island schools. It will install solar panels and replace old fans and other equipment with newer, more energy efficient models.

The office of education signed a contract with a renewable energy firm called OCT last year. That deal led to the installation of solar energy systems in 10 of the island’s small elementary schools, including (북촌) Bukchon Elementary School. Another ten institutions are scheduled to get the systems in the first half of this year.

학교에서 부담하는 냉,난방비 부담이 줄어들 전망입니다.

제주도교육청은 한국전력의 전기 공급 약관 변경으로 지난달부터 교육용 전기 요금을 20% 할인 받고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

또 20여 억원을 투입해 태양광 발전 설비 구축과 낡은 선풍기 등 냉,난방기 교체를 통해 에너지 효율을 높혀 전기요금 절감 효과를 기대하고 있습니다.

도교육청은 지난해 신재생에너지업체 OCI와 업무협약을 통해 북촌초 등 10군데 소규모 초등학교에 태양광발전 시설을 설치한데 이어 올 상반기에도 10군데를 추가 설치할 예정입니다.
