Outdoor-grown mandarin prices highest in 5 years
Average \17,500 at auction in Seoul for 10 kg box

Outdoor-grown mandarin orange prices have hit their highest point in five years, and they’re still rising.

According to the Jeju Gamgyul Association, 10-kilogram boxes of the fruit were selling on Friday for an average of 17,500 won at auction at Seoul’s Garak Market.

At this time last year, the average was just 12,400 won. It’s even higher than the 16,600 won in 2013, when analysts agreed the prices were quite favorable for growers.

Industry insiders say it is also significant that current prices have remained above 17,000 won for some time.

They attribute the situation to good quality fruit, high sugar content, and a reduced supply.

노지감귤 10kg에 1만7천원 대…5년새 최고

노지감귤값이 최근 5년 사이에 최고가를 기록하며 고공행진을 이어가고 있습니다.

제주도감귤출하연합회에 따르면 오늘 오전 서울 가락동도매시장에서 거래된 감귤 10kg 한상자의 경락가격은 평균 1만 7천 500원을 기록했습니다.

이같은 가격대는 지난해 1만 2천 400원, 감귤값이 비교적 좋았던 2013년산의 1만 6천 600원에 비해 높은 것입니다.

특히 최근들어 1만 7천원 전후의 가격대를 꾸준히 보이고 있습니다.

이같은 현상은 품질이 양호하고 당도가 높은데다 출하물량도 감소했기 때문으로 분석되고 있습니다.
