Large influx of school-age children since GEC opened
Nearly 5,000 minors moved to Jeju in 2015

Thousands of school-age children have been moving to Jeju annually since the opening of the Global Education City.

Statistics Korea says that in 2015, nearly 5,000 minors aged 5 to 19 moved to the island. The yearly total has been climbing yearly since 2011, when the GEC opened and nearly 3,500 children moved here.

The agency says most people who leave the island each year head to Gyeonggi-do and Seoul.

제주 영어교육도시가 본격 운영 된 후 5살에서 19살 이하 인구 유입이 크게 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

통계청에 따르면 지난 2015년 제주지역 유입 인구 가운데 5살 이상 19살 이하는 4천9백47명으로 제주영어교육도시가 문을 연 2011년 3천4배69명을 기록한 후
해마다 증가세를 기록했습니다.

전출지는 경기도와 서울이 대부분을 차지했습니다.
