Province helping local employees collect unpaid wages
Area workers owed some \1.3b
In the lead-up to the holidays, the provincial government says it is doing all it can to make sure all area workers are paid any outstanding wages they are owed.
To tackle the problem, the province has joined forces with organizations including the Gwangju branch of the Employment and Labor Service, the Jeju branch of the Korea Worker’s Compensation & Welfare Service, and the Jeju Chamber of Commerce and industry. It has also set up a special team of government employees to deal with the issue.
The province says it will help workers regarding civil suits, if needed.
As of the end of 2016, 55 companies were behind in payments to their employees. Collectively, they owed them some 1.3 billion won.

제주특별자치도가 설 명절을 앞두고 체불임금 해소를 위해 행정력을 집중합니다.
이를 위해 제주도는 광주지방고용노동청, 근로복지공단제주지사, 제주상공회의소 등 유관 기관과 합동으로 체불임금 청산 지도 전담반을 운영합니다.
또 필요할 경우 민사소송에 대한 도움도 주기로 했습니다.
한편 지난 연말까지 제주도내 임금 체불 사업장은 55곳으로 체불액은 13억 600만 원에 이르고 있습니다.
