With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, local organizations are stepping up to the plate to make sure everyone has a holiday to remember. Minhoe Kim reports.

The Kim Man-duk Memorial Hall and Kim Man-duk Rotary Club are working together to help people in need as the Lunar New Year approaches.

During such a family-oriented season it’s important that we help those around us who don’t have family visiting them, just as Kim Man-duk did.

Volunteers head out to neighboring houses, their car trunks filled with rice bags.
They arrive at a small residence at the end of a narrow alley.
The resident - an elderly woman - sheds tears of joy as she receives a bag of rice.

I don’t have any relatives visiting me. I am so grateful for both your visit and the rice. It’s such a surprise. Thank you.

"친척도 안 찾아주는데 이렇게 와주셔서 너무 고맙습니다. 잘 먹겠습니다. 사람이 살다보면 감동이란게 이런 겁니다."
Already, one ton of rice has been donated.
Two more delivery rounds will see more rice given to elderly people who live alone, as well as to local social welfare facilities.
Children, also, are joining in on the good deed.

Children donate money to Community Chest of Korea
Kids from a local daycare center donated money earned through a neighborhood bazaar.

The children sold some of their used possessions to friends or family at the bazaar and then donated all of the earnings.

And all around the island, helping hands are bringing a little bit of holiday light and warmth to the lives of those less fortunate.
