High-tech response to climate change
\780b to be spent on dozens of initiatives over next 5 years

The provincial government is starting a five-year plan this year on adapting to climate change through state-of-the-art technology.

The Ministry of Environment has analyzed and accepted the province’s proposal, which is the second of its kind.

The government will spend 780 billion won on a number of initiatives through 2021. The plan is divided into 45 separate projects in seven broad categories, including health, forestry, water management, and the local ecosystem.

The major thrust of the plans is the establishment of a high-tech system to collect data that will be used to respond to heavy rainfall, heat waves, snow storms, and other weather events.

Seoul stipulates that Jeju submit a detailed action plan every five years on how it will respond to climate change.

'첨단기술로 기후변화 대응'…제주 2차 기후변화 대책 마련

제주도가 올해부터 5년간 첨단기술을 활용해 기후변화에 적응하기 위한 각종 사업을 추진합니다.

제주특별자치도는 제2차 기후변화적응대책 세부시행계획을 수립해 환경부에 적정성 검토를 의뢰했다고 밝혔습니다.

이번 계획은 올해부터 오는 2021년까지 5년간 사업비 7천 800억원을 투입해 건강과 산림, 물관리, 생태계 등 7개 분야에 45개 사업으로 구성됐습니다.

특히 첨단기술 융합을 통해 각종 자료를 수집 분석하고, 예측한 정보를 실시간으로 제공하는 시스템을 구축해 집중호우와 폭염·폭설 등에 대비하는데 초점을 맞췄습니다.

기후변화적응대책 세부시행계획은 정부방침에 따라 5년마다 한번씩 제출하고 있습니다.
