Province plans construction of logistics complex
Officials want private sector to build facility

The provincial government is planning the island’s first logistics complex, and it wants the private sector to build the facility.

The government says it will draw up a development plan for a 167,000-square meter facility near Jeju Harbor. Officials say they envision it being privately-financed and based on real demand for a distribution center.

If the project does not get off the ground, the government will then consider moving ahead with it as a joint public-private approach with the Korea Shipping, Port, and Logistics Corporation....or as simply a government project.

Analysts say its success as a private initiative depends on either the establishment of an association of companies that would use the logistics facility or the creation of a special purpose company.

물류단지 개발, 민간개발 방식 우선 검토

제주도가 사상 처음으로 물류단지 개발을 추진하고 있는 가운데 민간개발 방식을 우선 검토하기로 했습니다.

제주도는 16만 7천㎡에 이르는 제주항 배후 물류단지 개발 로드맵을 수립하고 우선 실수요 중심의 민간개발 방식으로 추진할 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.

다만 민간개발 방식이 어려울 경우 해운항만물류공사와 연계한 민관공동개발 또는 공공주도형개발을 검토한다는 계획입니다.

제주도는 민간개발의 경우 자금 조달능력이 있는 수요기업 다수가 참여하는 협동조합이나 SPC 등 민간추진조직체 구성이 중요한 관건이 될 것으로 전망하고 있습니다.
