New plans to use cruise sector to boost local economy
1.5m cruise tourists expected to visit Jeju this year

Provincial authorities have announced plans to stimulate the overall economy in Jeju through the emerging cruise tourism sector.

The province will develop tour itineraries that include stops at traditional markets and the old city center, and it will launch shuttle bus service between the harbor and local markets.

When issuing permits to cruise lines, it will encourage them to buy local foods for use in onboard meals.

Finally, officials will organize more business meetings in order to develop products for cruise tourists to buy and boost qualitative development in the sector.

Jeju is gearing up to host some 1.5 million cruise tourists this year. They are expected to add 750 billion won to the local economy.


크루즈관광 연계 지역상권 활성화 추진

제주도가 급성장하고 있는 크루즈관광과 연계한 지역상권 경제 활성화 대책을 수립해 추진합니다.

우선 전통시장과 원도심을 중심으로 크루즈 관광객 유치 확대를 위해 지역상권 방문 프로그램을 개발하고 크루즈항과 지역상권을 연결하는 셔틀버스를 운영하기로 했습니다.

특히 크루즈 선석 배정권을 활용해 크루즈선사별로 지역상권 방문과 제주산 농수축산물 선식 공급 확대를 유도해 나가기로 했습니다.

이와함께 맞춤형 크루즈관광 상품 개발과 질적성장을 위한 비지니스 미팅을 강화해 나갈 계획입니다.

한편 올해 크루즈 관광객은 150만명이 제주를 찾을 것으로 예상되며 7천500억원의 지역경제 파급효과가 기대됩니다.
