Traditional markets get Chinese interpreters
9 dispatched to Jeju City markets, shopping districts

Chinese interpreters are now stationed at traditional markets and shopping districts here in Jeju City.

On Wednesday, the city sent out nine Chinese-speaking assistants to five locations, including Dongmun Traditional Market and Baozen Street in Yeon-dong.

Most of them are immigrants. They are there to help Chinese visitors shop and to help area merchants sell.

Jeju City officials say they will continue to offer this interpretation service to merchants who ask for it.

전통시장에 중국어 통역도우미 배치

중국인 관광객들이 많이 찾는 전통시장과 상점가에 통역 안내 도우미가 배치됩니다.

제주시는 동문재래시장과 칠설로 상점가, 연동 바오젠거리 등 5곳에 중국어 통역 안내 도우미 9명을 배치해 오늘(1일)부터 운영에 들어갔습니다.

이번에 배치된 도우미들은 대부분 이주민들로 중국인 관광객들에게 쇼핑 편의를 제공하고 상인들의 영업 활동을 지원하게 됩니다.

제주시는 통역서비스를 요청하는 상인회에 대해서는 지속적으로 지원하기로 했습니다.
