Rural Seogwipo communities not following waste disposal rules
Specific days designated for different types of recyclables

The different regions of Seogwipo are responding differently to the new waste disposal policy.

City officials recently met with street cleaners and waste disposal companies. They heard that in urban areas of the city, residents were more-or-less sticking to the new rules regarding disposal times and designated days for different types of recyclables. That, however, was not the case in more rural areas of the city.

The sanitation workers also pointed out some other problems. They said that if people miss the designated day for a specific type of recyclable, they have to keep the waste in their house for a full week before they get a chance to dispose of it again. They also reported that foreign workers and the elderly are not properly informed about the new rules.

서귀포시가 쓰레기 요일별 배출제를 시범 시행하고 있는 가운데 제도를 실천하는 정도가 지역별로 차이를 보이고 있습니다.

서귀포시가 최근 읍면동 환경미화원, 수거.처리업체 등과 간담회를 가진 결과 시내권은 잘 지켜지는 반면,

외곽지나 읍면 변두리 클린하우스에서 요일별 배출 실천이 안 된다는 공통적인 의견을 얻었다고 밝혔습니다.

또한 매일 배출 품목이 달라서 배출 일자를 놓칠 경우 일주일을 기다려야 하고 노인층과 외국인 노동자들은 제도를 모르는 등의 문제점도 제시됐습니다.
