Vast majority of those polled oppose new waste disposal rules

About seven out of every ten islanders say there are serious problems with new waste disposal rules.

The rules restrict disposal to specific times and days of the week for different types of recyclables. Officials are currently implementing the policy on a trial basis.

The city of Seogwipo surveyed 810 residents and government employees last month. 68% of the citizens and 82% of the civil servants said the biggest issue was the restriction on recyclables disposal to certain days.

57% of residents and 60% of government staff said it is inconvenient because most homes lack the space to store the recyclables until the designated day of the week when they can be thrown out. Another 21% of the civil servants said that the new rules just bothered them in general.

Officials gave paper surveys to 446 members of the public from January 20th to the 26th at area community service centers. 378 city employees were surveyed online from the 12th to the 20th.

시민 68%·공무원 82% "요일별 배출제 불편"

쓰레기 요일별 배출제가 시범 시행되는 가운데 도민과 공무원 10명 가운데 7명 정도는 많은 불편을 겪고 있다는 설문조사가 나왔습니다.

요일별 배출을 지키기 어려운 이유로는 도민 57%와 공무원 60%가 집에 보관장소가 부족하기 때문이라고 응답했고, 특히 공무원의 21%는 귀찮아서라고 답했습니다.

한편 이번 조사는 도민 446명을 대상으로 지난달 20일부터 26일까지 읍면동주민센터에서 설문지에 의한 조사 방식으로, 공무원 378명을 대상으로 지난달 12일부터 20일까지 올레 홈페이지를 통한 설문조사 방식으로 진행됐습니다.
