Speed limit cut on mountain roads
Province aims to reduce accidents

Authorities are reducing the speed limit on roads that go over Hallasan Mountain in response to frequent accidents.

The provincial government is cutting the speed limit from 60 kilometers per hour to 40 or 50 on an 18.5-kilometer stretch of the 5.16 Road from (관음교) Gwaneum-gyo to (수악교) Suak-gyo.

On the 1100 Highway, authorities are reducing the speed limit to a maximum of 40 kilometers per hour on a 19-kilometer stretch from the (어승생) Eoseungsaeng Intersection to the intersection at the former Tamna University campus.

In addition, the province will spend 1.6 billion won through the end of next year on new guardrails and other safety facilities for sharply curved sections of the roads.

한라산 횡단도로 제한속도 강화

잦은 교통사고가 발생하고 있는 한라산 횡단도로의 속도 제한이 강화됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 올해 5.16도로 관음교와 수악교간 18.5킬로미터 구간에 대해
현행 시속 60킬로미터의 제한속도를 40에서 50킬로미터로 조정합니다.

또 1100도로 어승생 삼거리에서 옛 탐라대 사거리 구간 19킬로미터도 시속을 최대 40킬로미터로 강화할 방침입니다.

제주도는 이 밖에도 내년까지 16억원을 투입해 급커브 구간에 가드레인 등 안전시설을 보강합니다.
