Chinese man sentenced to 25 years for murder
Chen Guorui stabbed woman to death in a local church

A court has sentenced a Chinese man to decades behind bars for the stabbing death last September of a woman who was praying alone in a local church.

Jeju District Court Senior Judge (허일승) Huh Il-seung sentenced 51-year-old (천궈루이) Chen Guorui to 25 years in prison. His victim was a 61-year-old Korean woman.

In explaining his decision, the judge said Chen’s crime was premeditated, evidenced by his prior visit to the church to plan the murder. The judge also said he shown no remorse for his actions.

The prosecution had called for a life sentence February 9th during the final phase of the criminal trial.

법원은 피고인이 진지한 반성도 없고 사전답사까지 하는 등 계획적이고 치밀한 면모를 보였다며 양형이유를 설명했습니다.

앞서 검찰은 지난 9일 열린 결심공판에서 천 씨에 대해 무기징역을 구형했었습니다.
