‘Sara Campus needs to be moved’
JNU president wants teachers college relocated to main campus

The president of Jeju National University says he will try again to move JNU’s Sara Campus to the university’s main campus.

(허향진) Heo Hyang-jin made the announcement Tuesday during a press conference during which the university laid out its major plans for the year.

Students have opposed the relocation. Heo said he will seek common ground with them and work with the national government to come up ways to utilize Sara Campus, should the JNU Teachers College, which is based there now, be moved to the main campus. Heo floated the idea of establishing a new training institute at the site.

In a survey last year, more than half of the student respondents opposed the relocation.

허향진 제주대 총장이 학생 반대에 부딪혀 지지부진한 사라캠퍼스 이전을 재추진하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

허 총장은 오늘(21일) 기자들과 간담회를 갖고 올해 주요업무 추진계획을 설명하는 자리에서 교육대학인 사라캠퍼스의 본교 이전을 추진하겠다고 말했습니다.

이를 위해 학생들과 공감대 형성을 위한 노력과 함께 이전 부지에 연수원 분원 설립 등 활용 방안을 찾기 위한 정부와의 협의도 진행해 나갈 계획입니다.

한편 지난해 제주대가 사라캠퍼스 이전에 따른 연구 용역을 추진하면서 진행한 설문조사에서 재학생 절반 이상이 이전에 반대한 것으로 나타났습니다.
