Province prepares for possible early presidential election
Officials draw up list of 23 Jeju-related pledges for candidates

If the nation’s Constitutional Court upholds the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, a new presidential election will be required within 60 days, and the provincial government is preparing for that possibility.

A provincial task force worked with the Jeju Development Institute and other organizations to come up with a list of 23 election pledges in six main areas of concern for the province. Local authorities would like to see all potential presidential candidates agree to the pledges.

They include issues related to the early completion of a new seaport, improved settlement conditions regarding the island’s second airport, constitutional status for the provincial government, the withdrawal of the national government’s indemnity claim in Gangjeong, and inter-Korean exchanges.

The province will submit these election pledges to all major political parties.

조기 대선에 대비한 제주특별자치도의 대선 공약이 확정됐습니다

제주특별자치도는 제주발전연구원 등 유관기관과 함께 TF 팀을 구성해 6개 분야에서 대선공약 23개를 선정했습니다.

주요 공약으로는 제주 신항만 조기완공, 제 2공항 조기 개항과 정주여건 개선,
제주특별자치도의 헌법 지위 확보, 강정마을 구상권 철회, 남북교류사업 시범 추진 등입니다.

제주도는 이번주중에 각 정당의 중앙당을 방문해 이번에 확정된 대선공약을 전달할 예정입니다.
