Flu outbreak as school year starts
Jeju recently had over double national average of per capita flu cases

Medical authorities and parents are concerned that many people on the island are sick with the flu just as the new school year is beginning.

Provincial officials say there were 18.9 suspected flu patients per every thousand island residents in the week beginning February 12th. That’s more than the twice the national average over the same period, which was just 7.1.

Officials say personal hygiene is the key to stopping the outbreak and preventing yourself from coming down with the flu. They recommend washing your hands for at least 30 seconds and covering your mouth when you cough.

If you do come down with flu symptoms, they recommend you wear a surgical mask and seek treatment.

제주지역 인플루엔자 환자가 여전히 많아 신학기를 앞두고 예방활동에 각별한 주의가 요구되고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 지난 12일부터 일주일간 제주지역의 인플루엔자 의심환자는 1천명당 18.9명으로 전국 평균 7.1명에 비해 두배 이상 많게 나타났습니다.

이에 따라 이번주부터 시작되는 신학기를 맞아 인플루엔자가 확산되지 않을까 우려되고 있습니다.
