Protest against new waste disposal rules
Environmental group demonstrates in front of provincial office

Opposition is growing to new waste disposal rules that designate the days and times on which area residents can throw out their trash and recyclables.

About ten members of a local environmental group took turns protesting the policy in front of the provincial office from 9 Thursday morning until 6:30 in the evening. They called on Jeju City Mayor (고경실) Go Gyeong-sil to apologize for the initiative and step down.

The protesters argued that officials failed to adequately plan for the new policy and that it should therefore be scrapped immediately.

제주참여환경연대는 오늘 오전 9시부터 저녁 6시30분까지 제주도청 정문 앞에서
도민 10여 명과 함께 고경실 제주시장의 사과와 사퇴를 촉구하는 릴레이 1인 시위를 벌였습니다.

시위에 참석한 도민들은 서로 1시간씩 릴레이 1인 피켓시위를 벌이며 졸속 땜질식 쓰레기정책은 즉각 철회돼야 한다고 주장했습니다.
