Gangjeong council wants to form new group for Navy issues
Village representatives want Navy to drop its right to compensation

The Gangjeong village council says it wants to form a joint council with political representatives to address issues related to the Navy base in the community.

In a Friday morning press conference from the provincial council, village council members said the Navy has not dropped its compensation claim against base opponents. Village representatives said the governor, provincial assembly, and political parties have all asked the Navy to forego its right to indemnity.

The Gangjeong council said it was therefore paramount to form a consultative group to discuss measures to solve the problem.

해군의 구상권 청구에 대해 제주도지사는 물론 제주도의회, 각 정당까지 한 목소리로 철회를 요구하고 있지만, 해군은 1년이 다 되도록 꿈쩍도 하지 않고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

따라서 구상권 청구 문제 해결을 위해서는 강정마을회와 제주지역 정치권이 공동으로 협의체를 구성해 대책을 논의해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
