Ocean afforestation along Jeju coast
\7.6 billion being spent this year

The government will spend billions of won this year to make the waters off island communities healthier.


According to Minjoo Party lawmaker (위성곤) We Seong Gon, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to afforest the seabed off ten local communities, including Wimi 2-ri, Seongsan-ri, Siheung-ri, and Sincheon-ri.


Authorities are spending 7.6 billion won to rejuvenate 11-hundred hectares of seafloor this year. That makes it the biggest project of its kind since this type of work began in 2009.


We said he will strive to expand the project even more, as 37% of local waters are in the process of what’s known as desertification.

올해 제주 연안 10개 마을에 대규모 바다숲이 조성됩니다.


더불어민주당 위성곤 의원이 해양수산부로부터 받은 제주지역 바다숲 사업계획에 따르면 올해 위미2리와 성산리, 시흥리, 신천리 등 10개 마을에 바다숲이 새롭게 조성됩니다.


소요 예산은 76억 원, 조성면적은 1천 1백여 헥타아르로 사업이 시작된 지난 2009년 이후 최대 규모입니다.


위 의원은 현재 제주 바다의 37%가 사막화가 진행되고 있다며 앞으로 바다숲 조성사업 확대를 위해 노력하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
