Daily Chinese arrivals down 33%

More Chinese have canceled their trips here as part of the conflict between China and Korea over Seoul’s decision to deploy the THAAD anti-missile system.

According to the provincial government, about 2,000 Chinese canceled their plans with local travel agencies on Wednesday. That’s in addition to the 111,000 cancelations with 21 agencies the day before.

The number of daily Chinese arrivals has now fell to 2,500 ? 33% of what it was at this point last year.

Local authorities expect the situation to worsen. Some Shanghai travel agents have officially announced the discontinuation of travel packages to Korea and China Southern Airlines has decided to stop flying to Jeju.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 지금까지 제주여행을 취소한 중국 관광객은 어제까지 21개 여행사에 11만 1천여명에 이어 오늘(8일)만 해도 3개 여행사에 2천여명에 이르고 있습니다.

하루 입도 중국인 관광객도 2천 500여 명으로 지난해 같은기간보다 33% 가량 줄었습니다.

또 상하이 일부여행사가 한국상품 판매중단을 공식 표명했고 심천 남방항공도 제주노선 중단을 준비하는 등 앞으로 여파는 더 커질 전망입니다.
