‘Tailored support for students in need’
Education office outlines new aid plan

The Provincial Office of Education is changing the way it helps students in need.

Rather than a blanket solution for everyone, like covering tuition and school meals, the office will now tailor its support to the needs of each individual student.

Office representatives will visit and consult with the parents of students in crisis, including those who are often absent or lack basic knowledge, and then decide who to help and how much to help them. The office will offer recipients diverse welfare services including up to 500,000 won in financial support.

The education office projects this change will cause the number of beneficiaries to more than double from 12,000 to 26,000.

제주도교육청이 학생 복지 지원 방식을 개편합니다.

주요내용을 보면 종전 수업료나 급식비 등 경비를 지원하는 소극적 방식에서 벗어나
학생 수요를 반영한 맞춤형 지원방식으로 전환합니다.

이에 따라 장기 결석학생이나 기초학력 부진학생 등 위기학생을 중심으로 교사나 가정방문 상담을 통해 지원 대상을 선정하고매달 최대 50만원 지원 등 필요한 복지 서비스를 제공합니다.

제주도교육청은 이번 지원 방식 개편으로 대상 학생수가 종전 1만 2천명에서 2만6천명으로 확대될 것으로 기대했습니다.
