China’s ban on travel to Korea affects local festival
Beijing denies request from Dalian residents to attend

China’s ban on travel to Korea in retaliation for Seoul’s decision to deploy the THAAD anti-missile system is having an impact on local festivals.

Dalian is an official co-host of the Seogwipo Canola Flower International Walking Festival on March 18th. Nobody will be coming from the Chinese city, however.

About 200 people from the city government and sports federation applied for visas to attend. Beijing denied their requests and wouldn’t allow the visas to be issued.

The Seogwipo Tourism Association says it will not participate in the Acacia International Walking Festival in Dalian, which is scheduled for May, out of safety concerns.

서귀포시 관광협의회는 오는 18일 개막하는 유채꽃 국제걷기대회에 공동 개최국인
중국 다롄시도 참가할 예정이었지만 사드 배치 문제로 참가가 무산됐다고 밝혔습니다.

이번 대회에 앞서 중국 다롄시 소속 공무원과 스포츠연맹 참가자 200여 명이 참가 신청을 했지만 중국 정부에서 비자 발급을 거부했기 때문으로 확인됐습니다.

서귀포시 관광협의회는 중국 다롄시에서 오는 5월 열리는 아카시아 국제걷기대회에도 안전상의 이유로 참가하지 않기로 했습니다.
