Lawmakers say they should be penalized for cancelations

In related news, local lawmakers say cruise lines should be subject to some form of penalty for canceling trips here.

During a recent Q & A session with the provincial department of maritime affairs, the provincial council’s maritime affairs committee noted that the cruise lines currently face no obstacles to canceling Jeju stops.

Lawmakers argued they should either be fined or face other penalties because of the damage the cancelations do to the local economy.

Provincial officials responded by saying they are looking into the legal basis for enacting penalties.

크루즈 운항을 취소할 경우 과태료 부과 등 제재조치가 필요하다는 지적이 제기됐습니다.

제주도의회 농수축경제위원회는 제주도 해양수산국에 대한 현안질의에서 크루즈 운항 취소 사태가 빚어지고 있지만, 이에 대한 페널티는 전무하다고 지적했습니다.

크루즈 취소로 인해 지역 업체가 2차 피해를 입고 있다며 과태료 부과나 향후 선석 배정에 불이익을 주는 등 제도 개선이 필요하다고 강조했습니다.

제주도는 법적으로 제재 조치를 할 수 있는 대책을 검토하고 있다고 답했습니다.
