More foreign workers seeking help with workplace issues
Province to hire more translators this year to help them

As more non-Koreans move to Jeju to work, more of them are seeking official counseling on how to handle issues at their place of work.

The provincial government says foreigners sought aid on 300 occasions in 2013, 500 in 2014, and about 1,000 in 2015.

The main issues they had involved having their workplace moved, delayed payment of wages, and conflicts with their bosses.

In response, local officials plan to expand operations of the provincial counseling center for foreign workers. As part of these efforts, the government will spend an additional 50 million won this year on more translators and interpreters.

외국인 근로자 상담, 3년사이 3배 급증

제주도내에 거주하는 외국인 근로자가 늘어나며 이들에 대한 상담 건수도 급증하고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 도내 외국인 근로자 상담실적은 2013년 312건에서 2014년 547건, 2015년 1천 여건으로 크게 늘어났습니다.

주요 상담 내용은 사업장 이동과 임금체불, 업주와의 갈등 등이었습니다.

제주도는 올해 사업비 5천만 원을 투입해 통번역 상담사를 추가하는 등 외국인 근로자 상담센터 운영을 확대할 계획입니다.
