Bruce Cumings to receive Jeju April Third Peace Prize

The April Third Peace Foundation has awarded University of Chicago Professor Bruce Cumings the second Jeju April Third Peace Prize.

The professor is known for his scholarship on modern Korean history, specifically the causes of the Korean War and the April Third Incident.

Cumings argues that the tens of thousands of deaths attributed to the April Third Incident are at least in part due to misguided American military policies and that it is paramount to identify the historical truth related to it.

The award ceremony will be April first at the Hanwha Resort in Bonggae-dong, Jeju City.

특히 4.3 당시 제주도민 수만명이 학살당한데에는 미군정의 정책실책이 자리잡고 있다며 역사적 진실을 찾기 위한 과정을 강조한 바 있습니다.

제2회 제주 4.3 평화상 시상식은 다음달 1일 제주시 봉개동 한화리조트 회의실에서 열릴 예정입니다.
