Police set up election situation room
Officers working around the clock to deal with violations

Police have set up a special situation room to deal with election violations in advance of the nation’s 19th presidential election.

Voters will head to the polls May 9th.

The provincial police agency held an opening ceremony for the room Wednesday morning and immediately began operating it around the clock.

The department will focus on investigating and strictly dealing with three types of crime. The first is black propaganda, which is information that does not come from the source it claims to. The second is electoral violence, and the third, the illegal mobilization of groups of people.

In the run-up to the 17th presidential election police caught six people and in the last one, they nabbed four people for the dissemination of black propaganda and defamation.

경찰, 대선 수사상황실 설치

박근혜 전 대통령의 파면으로 제19대 대통령 선거가 오는 5월9일에 치러지게 되면서 경찰이 선거사범 수사상황실을 설치하고 본격적인 운영에 들어갔습니다.

제주지방경찰청은 오늘(15일) 오전 지방청에서 선거사범 수사상황실 현판식을 열고 선거사범 24시간 비상 단속체제에 돌입했습니다.

경찰은 흑색선전과 선거폭력, 불법단체동원 행위를 반드시 척결해야 할 3대 선거범죄로 규정하고 엄정 대응할 방침입니다.

한편 제주지역에서는 지난 17대와 18대 대선에서 흑색선전과 명예훼손 등으로
각각 6명과 4명이 적발된 바 있습니다.
