Among Korea’s worst transportation services for disabled, elderly
Transport ministry cites high number of accidents, lack of accessibility

In somewhat related news, national researchers say Jeju has among the country’s worst transportation services for people who struggle to get from place to place, like the elderly and the disabled.

In a recent assessment, the transport ministry gave the island a score of 64, putting it in 9th place among the ten provinces and major cities that were examined.

Jeju got the lowest scores in the nation regarding accident rates involving pedestrians as well as the elderly and children.

The island also as the lowest rate of low-floor buses in the country.

제주지역 교통 복지가 전국 최하위 수준인 것으로 조사됐습니다.

국토교통부가 발표한 지난해 교통약자 이동편의 실태조사 결과 제주는 64점으로 10개 시도 가운데 9위에 머물렀습니다.

특히 보행환경을 평가하는 보행자 사고율이 전국 최하위를 기록했고 고령자와 어린이 사고율도 가장 낮은 평가를 받았습니다.

이와 함께 저상버스 보급률도 전국에서 가장 낮은 것으로 조사됐습니다.
