Produce prices continue to rise
Likely to remain high into May

Shoppers are paying more this year for produce grown in Jeju.

According to the Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea, the average price of outdoor-grown mandarins grown in 2016 was 38 percent higher than the year before.

The same goes for other crops. Carrot prices are up 203 percent, white radish 93 percent, and cabbage prices are 172 percent higher than they were.

BOK analysts say low supplies will keep prices high until May, when the harvest begins in other regions of the country.

제주에서 생산된 월동작물의 가격이 비교적 높은 값에 거래된 것으로 나타났습니다.

한국은행 제주본부가 감귤을 비롯한 주요 월동작물의 가격실태를 분석한 결과 2016년산 노지감귤의 경우 10kg 평균가격이 1년 전보다 38% 증가한 것으로 분석됐습니다.

또 당근은 203%, 양배추 172%, 월동무 역시 93% 급등한 것으로 조사됐습니다.

한국은행은 다른 지역에서 농산물이 수확되는 5월까지 공급부족 현상이 지속돼 당분간 높은 가격을 유지할 것으로 전망했습니다.
