Good prices for early season onions

Jeju growers are getting good prices for their early season onions.

The harvest has begun in the Daejeong area, and the Jeju branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation reports that one kilogram is selling for 1,870 won, which is 42 percent more than last year. It’s also more than twice the average March price of 920 won.

Prices are expected to fall in mid-April when growers in other areas begin harvesting.

Local farmers expect to harvest 34,000 tons this season, which would be five percent less than last year.

제주산 조생양파 본격 출하…가격 호조

올해산 조생양파 출하 초기 가격이 호조세를 보이고 있습니다.

농협제주지역본부에 따르면 최근 대정지역에서 조생양파 출하가 시작된 후 도매시장 거래 가격은 ㎏에 1천870원으로 지난해보다 42% 올랐습니다.

이같은 가격은 예년 3월 평균가격 920원보다 2배 정도 높은 것 입니다.

다만 농협은 다음달 중순쯤 다른 지역 하우스 양파 등이 출하되면 가격 하락에 영향을 줄 것으로 전망했습니다.

한편 올해 제주산 조생양파 생산량은 3만 4천 톤으로 지난해보다 5% 감소할 것으로 예측됐습니다.
