Spate of voice phishing cases
2 crimes, 7 additional attempts reported to police Tuesday

In related news, authorities now say these crimes are the work of an organized gang of criminals.

Provincial police said there have been seven voice phishing cases since March 20th. All told, victims were scammed out of some 160 million won.

On just Tuesday of this week, there were two more crimes and 15 other attempts.

Police have detained two more Chinese students in connection with the crimes, and they have expanded their investigation and cooperation with their counterparts overseas.

제주에서 보이스 피싱 범죄 잇따라

최근 제주에서 조직적인 보이스 피싱 범죄가 잇따르고 있어 각별한 주의가 요구되고 있습니다.

제주지방경찰청에 따르면 어제(28일) 하루 동안 모두 2건의 보이스 피싱 피해가 발생하는 등 지난 20일 이후 모두 7건이 발생해 피해액은 1억 6천만원에 이르고 있습니다.

특히 어제 하루만 하더라도 모두 15건의 보이스피싱 미수사건이 발생하기도 했습니다.

경찰은 보이스 피싱 범죄 행동책으로 활동한 중국인 유학생 2명을 추가로 붙잡아 조사하는 한편, 국제공조를 요청하는 등 수사를 확대해 나가기로 했습니다.
