Nationwide advisory issued for Japanese encephalitis
Mosquito carrier discovered for first time this year

The type of mosquito that carries the Japanese encephalitis virus has made its first appearance of the year.

The discovery prompted the Korea Centers for Disease Control to issue a nationwide advisory for Japanese encephalitis.

Officials say children between the ages of 12 months and 12 years should be vaccinated.

Last year, 28 people were afflicted with the condition and three of them died.

제주에서 올들어 처음으로 일본 뇌염 매개모기인 '작은빨간집모기'가 발견됐습니다.

이에 따라 질병관리본부는 전국에 일본뇌염 주의보를 발령했습니다.

특히 생후 12개월에서 만 12살 아동은 반드시 예방접종을 받을 것을 당부하고 있습니다.

지난해 우리나라에서는 28명의 환자가 발생해 3명이 사망한 것으로 잠정 집계됐습니다
