Province plans to raise honorary allowance for war veterans
Monthly benefit would more than double for 4,200 island vets

On Friday, the province gave advance notice of an amendment to raise the honorary allowance for locally residing war veterans.

It is currently accepting public opinion on the proposal.

The change would more than double the current benefit. If the amendment becomes law, vets who are at least 80 years old will get 150,000 won per month, and those between the ages of 65 and 79 will get 90,000 won.

Some 42-hundred war veterans on the island currently get the allowances.

참전유공자 명예수당 인상 추진

제주에 사는 참전유공자에 대한 명예수당이 인상됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 이같은 내용을 담은 제주도 참전유공자 지원 조례 개정안을 오늘(7일) 입법예고하고 도민 의견을 받고 있습니다.

개정 조례안에 따르면 80살 이상의 참전유공자의 경우 명예수당을 현재 월 7만원에서 15만원으로, 65살 이상 79살까지는 현재 4만원에서 9만원으로 2배가량 인상됩니다.

현재 제주에서 명예수당을 받고 있는 참전유공자는 4천 200여 명입니다.
