JTO responds to KCTV report on lack of interpreters

KCTV recently reported on the lack of interpreters on the island for languages other than Chinese, and the Jeju Tourism Organization has responded with a plan to train more interpreters in Southeast Asian languages.

The JTO will run classes for three languages: Vietnamese, Thai, and Malay-Indonesian. An increasing number of people who speak those languages visit the island.

There will be three levels for each language ? one for beginners, one for intermediate-level learners that focuses on conversation, and one for advanced learners to prepare for the tour guide exam.

The JTO is accepting applications through Friday on its website.

KCTV가 지적한 중국어에 편중된 통역안내사 문제와 관련해 제주관광공사가 동남아권으로의 통역안내사 양성을 위한 교육을 확대합니다.

제주관광공사는 최근 동남아시아 관광객 증가에 따라 베트남어와 태국어, 마인어 등
동남아권 3개 언어 관광통역안내사 교육 강좌를 개설해 운영합니다.

특히 기초교육의 초급반과 회화교육의 중급반, 관광통역안내사 시험 응시를 위한 공인외국어시험 대비반으로 나눠 진행합니다.

모집기간은 오는 14일까지이며, 제주관광공사 홈페이지에서 신청 가능합니다.
